Skin Type

Choosing the right skincare routine as per your skin is very important. To decide that it is very important to know your exact skin type. There are mainly five types of skin: dry, normal, combination and oily. As our skin type changes with our age so do our skincare routine. In this article, you can know your skin type and homemade toners along with face masks to protect and repair your skin from damage.

DRY SKIN

Dry skin is mostly caused because of lack of natural oils and water in our epidermis. People with naturally dry skin have rough, dull complexion and can even have dry patches. Weather plays a very vital role in affecting the skin. So, it gets even more worse during monsoon and winters. Therefore, it is very important to keep the skin hydrated.

What to Do?

  • Avoid hot shower
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • Prevent your skin from harsh chemicals
  • Use pure Aloe Vera Gel before going to bed
  • Do not wash your face more than twice a day
  • Always use a soap-free facewash or body wash
  • Drink minimum 8-10 glasses of water each day
  • Keep your skin hydrated with oil and oil-based moisturizers

DIY Face Toner for Dry Skin

1. Milk & Honey Toner- Add few drops of honey in 2 tbsp. of milk

2. Cucumber & Rose Water Toner- Mix 4 tbsp. of cucumber juice with 4 tbsp. of rose water

3. Green Tea & Aloe Vera Toner- Mix 1 tbsp. of green tea water with 1 tsp. of aloe vera gel


DIY Face Mask for Dry Skin
1. Banana & Yogurt Face Mask

  • Make the paste of 1 banana, ¾ cup of yogurt and ½ tbsp. of honey
  • Apply the paste for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water
  • Apply it once a week

2. Pomegranate & Oatmeal Face Mask

  • Grind one cup of oatmeal and 2-3 tbsp. of pomegranate seeds
  • Add 2 tbsp. of honey and milk to form a paste consistency
  • Apply it twice a week

3. Papaya & Strawberry Face Mask

  • Blend papaya, strawberries and few drops of honey together
  • Make the paste by adding oatmeal to the mixture
  • Apply it for 15 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water




NORMAL SKIN

Most of the time people with normal skin do not face any skin related problems like those with other skin types. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t need any skincare routine. You may not see the damage caused to your skin by sun, environment and other factors but you will definitely see them as you grow old.

What to Do?

  • Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • Use non-soapy anti-bacterial facewash
  • Add a skin repair night serum in your skincare routine
  • Use skin balancing moisturizer designed for normal skin

DIY Face Toner for Normal Skin

1. Tomato Toner- Apply the juice of refrigerated tomato on the face with cotton pad

2. Red Grape Toner- Take the juice of red grapes by straining the pulp. Store it in cool place

3. Mint Toner- Boil ½ cup mint leaves in 1 cup water for 5-6 minutes. Let it cool and then strain


DIY Face Mask for Normal Skin
1. Strawberry Face Mask

  • Blend few strawberries with unsalted butter to make the paste
  • Apply it on the face for 10-15 minutes
  • Rinse with lukewarm water

 2. Apple Face Mask

  • Blend 1 apple with 1 tbsp. of honey to make the paste
  • Apply it on face for 20 minutes and rinse with normal water




COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin is the mix of oily at some areas and dry or normal at others. In this type, mostly T-zone is oily and cheeks are of normal type. Combination skin may have clogged pores, blackheads and shiny T-zone along with chin. The oil glands in these areas are more active which can even lead to breakouts.

What to Do?

  • Use anti-bacterial facewash
  • Avoid harsh chemical cleansers
  • Use sunscreen with SPF30 or more
  • Apply a nighttime moisturizer with a gel or serum

DIY Face Toner for Combination Skin

1. Honey & Aloe Vera Toner- Mix 2 tsp. of pure aloe vera gel with 2 tsp. honey in ½ cup of cold water. Soak the cotton pads in it

2. Lemon Juice Toner- Mix 2-3 drops of lemon juice in ½ cup of cold water. Soak the cotton pads in it


DIY Face Mask for Combination Skin
1. Strawberry Face Mask

  • Blend ½ cup strawberries with 1 cup yogurt and 2 tbsp. of honey
  • Apply it daily for smooth skin

2. Honey & Lemon Face Mask

  • Mix 1 tbsp. of honey with 2 tbsp. of lemon juice
  • Apply it on the dry areas of your face and let it dry
  • Rinse it off with warm water

 3. Egg White & Yogurt Face Mask

  • Mix 1 egg white and 1 tbsp. of yogurt
  • Apply it on the face and let it dry
  • Wash with warm water




OILY SKIN

Oily skin demands more care as compared to others. It makes oil glands hyperactive and produces excess oil. This leads to clogged pores which increases the pore size and skin becomes prone to acne. Control oil production is very difficult but we can keep our skin clean to protect it from any damage.

What to Do?

  • Exfoliate twice a week
  • Use oil-free moisturizer
  • Use oil controlling facewash
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more
  • Use water-soluble cleanser twice a day

DIY Face Toner for Oily Skin

1. Baking Soda Toner- Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda, 2 tbsp. of rose water in ½ cup of warm water. Dip the cotton pads and apply everyday

2. Apple Cider Vinegar Toner- Mix 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of water. Dip the cotton pads

3. Neem Leaves Toner- Boil few neem leaves in 1 cup of water. Let it cool and then strain. Dip the cotton pads


DIY Face Mask for Oily Skin
1. Papaya Face Mask

  • Mix 2 tbsp. of papaya with 1 tbsp. of yogurt and 1 tsp. of aloe vera gel
  • Apply it on the face and let it dry
  • Rinse it with normal water

2. Tomato Face Mask

  • Blend the tomato with 1 tbsp. of honey to make the paste
  • Apply the pulp on the face and let it dry
  • Rinse it off with cold water

3. Egg White Face Mask

  • Mix 2 tbsp. of lemon juice in one egg white
  • Apply it on the face and let it dry
  • Wash with warm water
